Stuart Weitzman (born 1941) is the American founder and former chairman emeritus of the luxury footwear brand Stuart Weitzman, which he launched in 1986. Born into a shoemaking family, he apprenticed at his father’s Seymour Shoes factory in Massachusetts and graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. After his father’s death in 1965, Weitzman ran the family business with his brother Warren, eventually selling it in 1971 but continuing to design for the Spanish manufacturer that acquired it.

The eponymous brand became a global powerhouse through its focus on Spanish craftsmanship in Elda, Spain, and strategic celebrity placements. A major breakthrough occurred in 2002 when actress Laura Harring wore Weitzman’s diamond-encrusted "Million Dollar Sandals" to the Academy Awards, cementing the brand's red-carpet status. Weitzman also pioneered the use of stretch materials in footwear, exemplified by the popular 5050 boot line introduced in 1993.

In terms of corporate ownership, Jones Apparel Group acquired a majority stake in 2010 and full ownership by 2012. In 2015, Weitzman sold the company to Coach (now Tapestry) for $574 million, staying on as creative director until his retirement in 2017. The brand was subsequently acquired by Caleres and continues to be recognized for high-end designs worn by icons like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Jennifer Aniston.
